The working principle of the MCP4013T-503E/CH is based on the resistance-value shift of wiper using a digital code. By using this potentiometer, a resistance value is established between its two terminals, and the resistance is dispersed along the resistor path according to the number of steps set by the code sent from the MCU. Unlike similar digital potentiometer products whose resistor path is dispersed by a certain range of steps, the MCP4013T-503E/CH utilizes a logarithmic curve of resistance to achieve precision adjustment. Log scaling of the resistor path allows higher resolution adjustment at lower levels of resistance, while at higher levels of resistance the resolution is reduced.
