MCP4252-103E/MF is a digital potentiometer IC connecting microcontrollers to the I2C bus. In data acquisition applications, MCP4252-103E/MF allows users to adjust the resistance of a fixed device on the fly when the parameters of a system require to be adjusted on the fly. It can also be used to sample remote potentiometers and gain a readout of the electrical resistance. Working Principle
The MCP4252-103E/MF works on a dual-mode I2C bus digital potentiometer protocol. This helps in communication between the device and the microcontroller. The I2C protocol is used to set the wiper resistance to the desired level. The wiper resistance is set to a value by the two 10-bit registers contained in the device. Writing to the registers with different values establishes the calibration resistance of the device. This can be used to modify the current running through the device, which is then reflected in the changes in the output resistance.
The MCP4252-103E/MF works by integrating a resistor array into the device. This resistor array is then connected to the wiper, which is controlled by the I2C protocol. The wiper is used to adjust the resistance of the entire device and thus it can be used to adjust the current passing through the device.
