Data Acquisition - Digital PotentiometersMCP4261-103E/SL is a series of two digital potentiometers, which combine an 8-bit wiper for digital control and an on-chip non-volatile memory for simple configuration. Not only does it offer superior performance and reliability, it also provides the basic voltage programming change synthesis to allow for a flexible configuration structure. The digital potentiometer, or digipot, is a three-terminal resistor with an on-chip non-volatile memory that can store data related to voltage and resistance. Digipots offer a range of features that can be easily tailored to meet application requirements such as chip size, frequency response rate, and voltage programming. Compared to traditional analog potentiometers, the digital version provides greater reliability and accuracy with less noise interference.MCP4261-103E/SL controls the wiper node voltage with the help of two external pins. It also has an on-chip non-volatile memory that allows the product to maintain its programmed and adjusted values even after power is removed from the system. The range of the MCP4261-103E/SL is typically 10 K Ohms and its wiper resistance resolution is 8 bits. The voltage control range is 0.5 – 4.5VDC. When this device is used, the value of the resistance along the resistive element between two end terminals of the device can be varied by changing the voltage applied to the control terminal. Because of this, applications of digital potentiometers such as MCP4261-103E/SL are becoming more common in a wide range of data acquisition applications, particularly where high temperatures, high accuracy, linearity, resolution, programmability and repeatability are critical. MCP4261-103E/SL can be used for data acquisition, precision instrumentation and voltmeter applications, where a non-volatile memory is beneficial to increase the temperature stability and accuracy of the wiper voltage. The product\'s 3-wire serial interface, high frequency response rate, low power consumption and 8-bit resolution makes it a perfect choice for any high end data acquisition system. In addition, MCP4261-103E/SL offers special functions for high speed data read/write operations, including the ability to latch data, increment or decrement the wiper position, save EEPROM data and other operations such as random access read/write. The product also has a power-on reset function that resets the wiper voltage and the digital control interface to initial values after power-on. Other features of the MCP4261-103E/SL include a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, an under voltage lockout that prevents the device from operating at voltages below 1VDC, and a power-on DBUS Timeout Protection register that monitors DBUS activity to prevent timeouts. The MCP4261-103E/SL digital potentiometer is a very versatile device that can be used in many different applications. It is an ideal solution for low noise and high accuracy data acquisition systems or precision instrumentation. It also provides a great level of repeatability and temperature stability, and its non-volatile memory allows for easy and efficient configuration.
