1. Describe
The Microchip Technology Inc. MCP492X is a 2.7 – 5.5V, low power, low DNL, 12 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with optional 2x buffered outputs and an SPI interface. The MCP492X is a DAC that provides high accuracy and low noise performance for industrial applications requiring calibration or compensation of signals such as temperature, pressure and humidity. The MCP492X is available in extended temperature range and PDIP, SOIC, MSOP and TSSOP packages. The MCP492X device uses a resistor string architecture, which provides inherent advantages of low DNL error, low ratiometric temperature coefficient, and fast settling time. These devices are specified over the extended temperature range. The MCP492X includes double buffered inputs, allowing simultaneous updates using the LDAC pin. These devices also contain a power-on reset (POR) circuit to ensure reliable power-up.

6. General overview
The MCP492X devices are voltage output string DACs. These devices include input amplifiers, rail-to-rail output amplifiers, reference buffers, shutdown and reset management circuits. Serial communication conforms to to the SPI protocol. The MCP492X operates at 2.7V to 5.5V power supply. The encoding for these devices is straight binary and The ideal output voltage is given by Equation 4-1, where G is the selected gain (1x or 2x) and DN is the number Enter the number and number of digits represented by n Resolution (n = 12).
7. Digital interface
The MCP492X uses a 3-wire synchronous serial protocol for transferring DAC settings and output values from digital sources. The serial protocol can interface to common SPI™ or Microwire peripherals on many microcontrollers, including Microchip's PICmicro® MCU and dsPIC™ DSC series of microcontrollers. In addition to the three serial connections (CS, SCK, and SDI), when the LDAC signals are synchronized, the serial settings are latched into the DAC's output serial input latch. Note that LDAC is active low. If desired, this input can be tied low to reduce the number of connections required from 4 to 3. The write command will be latched when a valid 16 clock transfer is received directly into the output latch and CS is raised.
