Working Principle

The MCP6021-I/ST works on the principles of noninverting amplifier and voltage followers. The difference between the noninverting amplifier and voltage followers is in the purpose of their nature. The noninverting amplifier, on one hand, amplifies an input signal, producing a larger output signal which is useful in a variety of amplification applications while the voltage follower, on the other hand, ensures that its output signal is in the same phase and magnitude of the input signal. This is beneficial in applications like isolations, active loads, and gain matching.

The MCP6021-I/ST can be used in several ways including, as an amplifier and a unity gain follower (voltage buffer). As an amplifier, the MCP6021-I/ST takes the input signal and amplifies it according to the gain set by the external resistor and capacitor. As a unity gain follower (voltage buffer), it amplifies a voltage signal it and delivers a buffered output with nearly zero distortion.

Implementation

The MCP6021-I/ST can be implemented in a few simple steps. First, the power supply and the power signals need to be connected, along with the output of the amplifier. Next, the input must be properly connected to the pins of the package, depending on if it is single- or dual-ended input. The gain needs to be determined, and a resistor and capacitor need to be chosen to connect between the noninverting input and the output pin of the IC.
