Linear and comparators are circuits designed to compare the voltages or currents and produce output signal based on the comparison. MCP6541 and MCP6543 devices are differential comparators which are basically used to sense the difference in voltages, resulting in driving TTL high/low signals. The MCP6544-E/ST is yet another differential amplifier from the family which is integrated with high-speed and low-power consumption feature on the same chip.

MCP6544-E/ST, a tiny 1.6mm x 1.6 mm chip, is a general purpose current sensing comparator, equipped with typical operating current of only 0.5 μA. It is featured with a high output speed of 275V/μs and has a wide operating temperature range from -55°C to 150°C. This makes it suitable to be applied in different environments of industrial, automotive or telecom applications.
It also features Input differential voltage range of ±2.2V, an output voltage range of 0-VCC, power supply range of 2V to 6V, internal 80uA current limit and a 0.8MHz/1.5V/μs break-over frequency.
The input pins of the IC can be used as a voltage to current transformer, with the help of corresponding external components which makes it widely applicable in current sensing and level shift applications.

MCP6544-E/ST working principle:

The device MCP6544-E/ST is a differential comparator in which the two differential inputs AIN- and AIN+ are compared with the respective reference voltage at REF+ and REF-. The reference voltage can be adjusted by an external adjustable voltage. This should be a certain value consistent with the input voltages applied. The output status of the comparator is either in High or Low state, depending on which input voltage is higher in comparison to the other.
In general, the higher the differential voltage at the inputs AIN+ and AIN-, the faster will be the voltage change at the output. The difference in the voltage across the two input terminals should be within the specified range and should be more than the hysteresis of the device for it to function properly. The ultra-low power consumption and high speed make the MCP6544 comparator ideal for applications like light sensing, system monitoring, and level translation.

Application fields for MCP6544-E/ST:

The MCP6544-E/ST comparator is widely used in light sensing applications like LED dimming, gas sensing, temperature sensing and other light sensing applications.
