The MCP6548-E/P is a linear-comparator specially designed for the use with the monitor contact pressure switches. The MCP6548-E/P has the ability to sense a wide range of contact pressures, including those in narrowband applications. It provides a high performance, low-noise, low-dissipation multi-channel comparator with a wide range of integration options.

The MCP6548-E/P comprises two comparator stages and a pair of outputs. The physical design includes two horseshoe-shaped orthogonal electrodes providing a wide range of input pressures for detecting and are protected by an epoxy layer for electrical insulation. The device is also compatible with a wide range of contact materials, including silver, aluminum, gold, and more.

The MCP6548-E/P monitors the contact displacement via bi-directional movements. Displacements on one electrode, the reference (REF), are sensed by two active comparators. Upon detection of these contact displacements, the device will trigger an output by applying a voltage compliant to the user\'s specified input range, while remaining within its linear dynamic range.

The MCP6548-E/P also monitors wires, casings, sprockets, and miscellaneous items in a closed-loop loop control system to verify when system operation is dangerous or when a component is out of order. It is ideal for high-volume applications or when a flexible range of pressure must be detected. To prevent false reading due to external interference, noise, or vibration, input ground resistance is low.

The working principle of the MCP6548-E/P is based on a quasi-linear architecture. It utilizes multiple contacts to measure displacement as well as sense the reference and output voltages. Depending on the contact pressure detected by the contacts, the two comparator stages will determine the voltage supplied to the output, which should remain within a preset range. In this manner, the device is capable of sensing varying contact pressure and detecting it accurately.
