Optoisolators are components that provide isolations between circuits by using light instead of metal-to-metal contacts. They are also known as optocouplers and opto-isolators. The MCT2FR2M Transistor, Photovoltaic Output is a dual channel optocoupler with two photo-transistor output and an option for optional red LED indicator, which is used to isolate two circuits.
MCT2FR2M Application Field
The MCT2FR2M optocoupler is designed to be used in applications where a device must be isolated from another while passing control signals. This type of optical isolation decreases the chances of noise and power supply incompatibility causing incorrect operation of the device. Specifically, the MCT2FR2M can be used in protection of low and mid-power control circuits against high-voltage transients, in medical equipment, PCB protection from transient pulses, high speed control lines, electrical isolation and sequencing and more.
MCT2FR2M Working Principle
MCT2FR2M optocoupler is composed of two parts. One is an LED side which receives the input signal from the first circuit. The other is a phototransistor side which emits an output signal to the second circuit. The LED side is triggered and it produces a light which drives the phototransistor side and the output current of the phototransistor is controlled by the LED current.
The LED side contains a special features called “dramatic suppression of turn-off delay time”, which recovers the output of the phototransistor rapidly if the power fails without any signal manipulation. The device also operates on an extremely low current, making it suitable for applications that require effective power consumption. Another feature is that the LED side can be seen in the dark, making it suitable for applications in emergency and safety applications.
Overall, the MCT2FR2M Transistor Photovoltaic Output offers a small form factor, low cost, easy to use and reliable optocoupler. It is particularly suitable for applications where the input signal is relatively high, and the output power is low. It can be used to protect low and mid-power control circuits against the high voltage transients, provide electrical isolation and sequencing of signals, control high-speed control lines, and protect PCBs from accidental transients.
