Common Mode Chokes (CMC), is a passive electrical devices typically consisting of coiled wire, ferrite core, and/or magnetic shield. They are primarily used to block or filter common mode noise, which is noise that appears simultaneously on both sides of electrical power or signal lines. Common Mode Chokes are ideal for applications that require greater signal integrity at reduced power levels such as high-speed cables. The M CZ1210AD221T is a common mode choke specifically designed for high current, low voltage applications. It is constructed with a two single wire winding in combination with a commonly used ferrite core material. The choke’s effective inductance values of 1.3uH+-10% makes it perfect for power signal line circuit. In addition, this particular common mode choke features an ultralow DC resistance of 0.32 ohms and a maximum DC current of 10A.

In terms of Working Principle, the M CZ1210AD221T is designed using a two single-wire winding technique in combination with a ferrite-core material. The combination of these two elements form an inductor, as current passes up one side of the coil, a magnetic field is created within the winding. This magnetic field exerts a counter-electromotive force or voltage on any current flowing down the adjacent side. When the same current passes down another side of the coil, the two fields will oppose each other, creating a cancelling effect.
The magnetic field which is created on one side by current passing in the same direction as the current on the opposite side of the coil will repel each other. By having two windings, you can connect the end of one winding to the beginning of the other, forming a closed circuit or loop. Any current that rises on one side of the loop and falls on the opposite one will result in a larger total magnetic field. This “common mode” field between the two windings helps attenuate common mode noise on adjacent lines, resulting in much less interference between them.
