The MDD172-14N1 is a dual common-anode light emitting diode (LED) array in a hermetically sealed 14-lead plastic dual-inline-package (DIP). It is designed primarily for superior light emitting performance in automotive and industrial lighting applications, as well as other applications where ease of connection and mounting are of paramount importance. Being hermetically sealed and having been tested for operation under the most extreme conditions, the MDD172-14N1 is extremely reliable and durable for long-term, reliable operation.The MDD172-14N1 is designed to address various applications in the automotive and industrial lighting markets, as well as other applications that require reliable, easy to connect and mount, and long-term operation. For automotive applications, the MDD172-14N1 can be used in illuminated switches and indicators, interior lighting, exterior lighting applications, like headlamps and tail lights, and vehicle specific lighting applications, like cornering lights and brake lights. For industrial applications, the MDD172-14N1 is well-suited for display lighting, LED lighting for backlit indicators, signage and channel letters, as well as for illuminating streetlights.The MDD172-14N1 consists of two independent LED arrays, each consisting of seven dual-color LED chips connected in series or parallel configuration. When used in series circuit configuration, each LED array operates at 7.2V and draws a maximum of 20mA current. In parallel circuit configuration, each LED array operates at 3.6V and draws a current of 40mA.An internal current-regulating circuit ensures that LED current is automatically regulated and is limited to the maximum of 20mA in series circuit configuration and 40mA in parallel circuit configuration. The LED array will switch to a low-power mode when the input voltage is less than the rated voltage. This allows the LED array to reduce power consumption and maintain a stable level of light output.The MDD172-14N1 also features an integrated thermal protection circuit that acts to protect the LED array from excessive heat generation by reducing the operating current if necessary. This allows the MDD172-14N1 to be used in high-temperature environments such as automotive applications, without compromising its lifetime.The MDD172-14N1 is a hermetically sealed, dual common-anode LED array with integrated current-regulating, and thermal protection circuits for superior light emitting performance in automotive and industrial lighting applications. The array can be configured in either series or parallel circuit configuration and operates at either 7.2V or 3.6V for a maximum current of 20mA or 40mA respectively.
