While there are many types of resistors, one of the most common and versatile is the through-hole resistor. The most common type of through-hole resistor is the fixed resistor.
The six-digit type number for through-hole resistors is made up of three characters, followed by three numerical digits or spaces. For instance, the fixed resistor type code Maeo Electronic’s MGK1JT10M0 is composed of MGK, 1JT, 10, and 0. The first three characters are the manufacturer’s code, while the four characters that follow indicate the wattage rating of the resistor, tolerance, and temperature coefficient. When the voltage across a resistor is increased, the current through the resistor will increase proportionally.
