Working Principle

MGN1106MS-TR discrete LED is a solid-state semiconductor device operating based on the “P-N junction” principle. The two layers of semiconductor material are respectively doped with different types of elements, forming two separate and distinct semiconductor regions, namely the “p-type” and “n-type” layers. An electric current cannot pass through the junction of the two layers except in a very limited manner.

When an electrical voltage source is connected to the discrete LED, electrons will move through the n-type layer and holes through the p-type layer. The electrons and holes traverse toward each other and recombine within the led device. This forward-biased recombination of electrons and holes causes the release of excessive energy in the form of photons, generating electromagnetic radiation in the form of visible light.
