PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear + SwitchingThe MIC2206-1.8YML-TR is a monolithic switching regulator with an integrated low drop-out (LDO) linear regulator. It is designed to provide an efficient power supply system to power portable equipment such as digital cameras, cell phone, portable medical equipment, and personal media players. It is capable of delivering an output current in excess of 1.8 Amp and up to 12V DC. The IC has integrated voltage regulation, over temperature protection, adjustable output voltage, and power fail flag. The MIC2206-1.8YML-TR is part of a line of ICs from the MIC22xx family. This line of ICs is capable of providing efficient, low-noise, and full-featured, linear and switching power designs from a small footprint. The family consists of products such as single and dual output LDOs, dual and triple output switching, step-up converters, and high current power MOSFET drivers. The MIC2206-1.8YML-TR is an efficient, low-RDS (on) power MOSFET integrated circuit. The MIC2206 combines a high efficiency, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator with low-on-loss power MOSFETs. It integrates a feedback control loop to regulate the output voltage with a very fast transient response. The integrated N-channel MOSFETs with high-side current sensing has a total resistance of less than 5 milliohm. The output voltage range is adjustable to accommodate various user requirements. It also provides over-temperature protection and a power fail flag that signals when the actual output voltage is lower than the expected. The working principle involves the linear regulator and MOSFET that both work in tandem to regulate the output voltage.
