The MIC2204BML is a synchronous step-down DC-DC switching regulator with a 600mA output current capability that operates from a 3.5V to 25V input voltage range. It is a monolithic Device with an on-board inductor, allowing for a selectable fixed output voltage of 0.9V, 1V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V. This device is specifically designed for low-noise, high-efficiency applications such as point-of-load DC-DC converters, LCD TV, set-top boxes and other power management requirements.

The MIC2204BML\'s switching frequency can be externally synced in the range of 200KHz to 1.2MHz. There is an adjustable constant off-time control allowing for flexibility to optimize efficiency, transient response and EMI. This device also includes an undervoltage lockout circuit which prevents switching until an adequate input voltage is available.

In the MIC2204BML synchronous buck regulator, high-side and low-side power switch are internally synchronous rectified and the MAX current mode control is adopted. Its operating frequency is adjustable by an external Clock synchronization. Its input voltage allows up to 25V, allowing to be used in diverse conditions. The operations start with an internal soft-start capacitor Css 4.7uF / 5.0V. After that, the soft-start pin is held high so that the IC does not reset. The internal gain in constant on-time provides the overload protection without the need for loop compensation.

The switching frequency is externally synchronized using an external clock in the range of 200KHz to 1.2MHz. The supply voltage should be applied and held at 3.8V minimum before switching, otherwise the chip will remain in shutdown mode. The device has a low-battery lockout voltage of 1.9V with an accuracy of 10%. The MIC2204BML includes a current-mode control loop with Internal propagation delay compensation, and typical peak-current sensing of 0.8%. The built-in voltage feedback enables regulation of 0.2% on the regulated output.

The MIC2204BML features under-voltage lockout circuit, current limit protection (OCP), as well as thermal shutdown (TSD) protection. OCP monitors the current through the power transistor and immediately shuts off the output when the current exceeds the OCP threshold. In order to prevent thermal-related damage, TSD is implemented to shut down the MIC2204BML in case of an over-temperature condition, and it will not be restarted until the junction temperature has fallen below its TSD threshold, approximately 150°C.

The MIC2204BML, with its high-efficiency, low-noise operation, is suitable for various power management applications such as DC-DC converters, PC on-board, laptops/notebooks and point-of-load adapter systems. Additionally, The MIC2204BML can also be used in constant-current output applications with temperature compensation and voltage fold-back. The device can be ordered in 8-pin SOIC and 8-pin QFN packages, making it easy to be integrated into existing designs, while enabling designs with a small form factor and a low profile.
