The MIC2296YML-TR is a device in the power management integrated circuit (PMIC) voltage regulators family and is part of the DC-DC switching regulators. It is a monolithic step-down switching regulator, designed to deliver up to 10A continuous current over a wide input voltage range of 2.9V to 32V. This voltage regulator has all the features necessary to implement cost-effective, step-down switching regulator designs. The device operates at a fixed frequency of 250kHz, minimizing the external components while offering good thermal efficiency. It also includes comprehensive protection features such as adjustable current limit, thermal shutdown, and short-circuit shutdown. Its low quiescent current of 10μA at no load makes it suitable for low power applications.

The MIC2296YML-TR step-down converters have excellent current mode control characteristics, making them stable over a wide range of conditions. They have both a fixed switching frequency and a programmable frequency, allowing the user to design a solution to match the desired output current ripple, external components size, and cost requirements. It has a low standby current of 2μA, allowing for optimal power saving when the load is low. The device also includes an adjustable soft-start feature that allows the user to control the inrush current when the system is being powered up.

In addition, the MIC2296YML-TR offers multiple protection features such as an over-voltage, an over-current, a thermal shutdown and a reverse-input protection. The over-voltage protection (OVP) prevents the output voltage from exceeding the set point value. The over-current protection (OCP) prevents the device from delivering excessive current to the output and the thermal shutdown (TSD) feature prevents the device from overheating by shutting off the output when the device temperature reaches a certain level. The reverse-input protection (RIP) prevents the device from operating when the input voltage is applied in the wrong direction.

The MIC2296YML-TR is a versatile and efficient step-down switching regulator solution for a wide variety of applications. Its wide input voltage and adjustable current limit capabilities make it excellent for providing a regulated supply in battery powered systems, small motors, LEDs and peripherals.
