The MIC23030-4YMT-TR is a member of the UltraFastTM synchronous buck switching regulator series manufactured by Microchip Technology Inc. Application Field and Working Principle
The MIC23030-4YMT-TR device is designed to convert a Voltage input to a regulated Voltage output. It utilizes a switchmode principle of operation where the energy is transferred through two switches and a power inductor. The primary switch will be controlled by the inverting output voltage. The synchronous rectifier controller on chip controlling the secondary switch and being PWM modulated performs the power conversion. Its adaptive on-time control provides advanced line and load transient response, excellent line and load regulation and fast Start-up. The 4A output current capability of the MIC23030-4YMT-TR makes it suitable for applications such as notebooks, PDAs, Bluetooth systems, and microprocessors cores, where space and weight constraints require high efficiency.The MIC23030-4YMT-TR is ideal for synchronous buck conversion from 5.5V to 0.6V at 4A as a main point of load regulation or/and secondary application. It also provides fast transient response, simple loop compensation design and requires fewer external components.In its operation mode, the voltage mode control is derived from the signal senseAmp sensing the voltage drop across the inductor. This signal is then compared to a reference provided by an internal comparer before being processed and sent to the PWM modulator. The pulse width modulation stage is then responsible for controlling the duty cycle of the primary switch, thus determining the conduction period and regulating the output voltage.Finally, the integrated power FETs then provide reduced conduction losses and better thermal performance with high efficiency while fast current limiting protection is offered by the internal current limit monitor circuit.
