MIC23450-AAAYML-EV Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPSThe MIC23450-AAAYML-EV evaluation boardis a high efficiency DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) switched mode power supply (SMPS) designed to meet and exceed the strictest requirements in terms of cost, efficiency, reliability and system integration. Its wide input voltage range from 7V to 48V and wide output range from 3.3V to 30V makes it ideal for a large variety of power supply applications. Its high switching frequencies of up to 500kHz enable small and lightweight solutions, reduced board size and low component counts. Furthermore, the power density extends across an extensive power range.This evaluation board is a cost effective, ready-to-use solution for evaluating power supply solutions with MIC23450. The evaluation board design provides various monitoring and protection features including constant frequency operation, over-voltage protection (OVP), current-mode control, adjustable soft-start, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) with hysteresis and trim, overtemperature protection, and discharge function. The board is also UL60950-1 certified and meets both the current Limited and Overload Protection requirements for basic safety.The MIC23450-AAAYML-EV operates using the following fundamental principles.Working principle: The working principle of a SMPS is based on the switching control of the output power. This can be done through a series of power switches (power transistors) and a controller. When the power switch is on, power is supplied to the output, and when it is off, no power is supplied. The output voltage is regulated by making the power switch remain ‘on’ for shorter or longer periods, thus changing the amount of power supplied. The output voltage is controlled by a pulse-width modulation (PWM) control technique which continuously controls the duty cycle of the power switch and ensures that the output voltage is maintained at its required level. In order to achieve this, the controller continuously monitors the output voltage and adjusts the duty cycle of the switch accordingly.Application field: The MIC23450-AAAYML-EV can be used in a wide range of applications, from general state-of-the-art computing systems, both in the desktop and notebook market, to any system requiring low voltage, low noise, high efficient and high power operation. It can also be used for automotive, consumer electronics, industrial and medical applications due to its wide operating temperature range.
