The MIC23603YML-T5 is a highly efficient and compact synchronous step-down switching regulator which features a 1.5% reference accuracy, and adjustable switching frequency in the range of 200kHz to 2.2MHz. This device has up to four stages of regulation, and includes a low dropout voltage output regulator. Working Principle

The MIC23603YML-T5 device is a low-dropout synchronous step-down switching regulator, featuring up to four stages of regulation. The device integrates a high-side (HS) and low-side (LS) synchronous MOSFET into a low profile TQFN-24 package. The HS MOSFET operates as a positive current source, whereas the LS MOSFET operates as a negative current sink. The MIC23603YML-T5 employs an on-chip temperature compensation algorithm to regulate the output voltage with low ripple over a wide input and output range.

The input voltage is converted to an appropriate voltage level by a high-efficiency step-down converter. The current mode loop controls the switching frequency, limiting the current through the inductor. The reference oscillator regulates the frequency of the current mode loop and provides synchronization to an external clock when necessary.

The current mirror senses the feedback node current and provides it as a feedback signal to the operational amplifier. The operational amplifier generates a PWM signal that drives the HS and LS switches on and off at a frequency that is determined by the multiplier.

The output voltage is monitored and regulated by comparing the Feedback voltage to the voltage on the Error Amplifier Input pin. The device will adjust the duty cycle of the PWM signal to regulate the output voltage.
