MIC2506BM-TR application field and working principle

The MIC2506BM-TR is a high-on-off-ratio low-voltage N-channel power distribution switch and load driver IC, with over-current and over-temperature protection. This device can be used in a wide range of applications, such as IoT (Internet of Things), industrial, and healthcare. It is suitable for switching with low output current and short circuit protection, as well as for driving LED with over-temperature protection.

The IC contains an N-channel MOSFET with a low on-resistance and a high on/off ratio and therefore it is capable of efficiently switching high voltage in the range from 1.2 V to 36 V and currents from 150mA to 1A. It also integrates numerous protection features such as over-current protection (OCP), over-temperature protection (OTP), under-voltage protection (UVP), and over-voltage protection (OVP). These integrated protection features, combined with the low RDS_on, allow for high over-current fault protection and thus reliability in the system in case of short circuit conditions.

In addition to this, the MIC2506BM-TR also contains integrated current-sensing, thermal-sensing, and fault-reported outputs, thereby allowing it to be used as a high-sensitivity, high-accuracy current-sensing device. Moreover, the fault-reported output also allows for system level cautions and alarms.

In operation, the 2×2 Toggle Mode included in the device allows control of the load of up to 1 A by two independent switches, while the individual current limit functionality lets each switch source up to 1 A current without affecting the other switch settings. In this configuration, the MIC2506BM-TR provides a high level of system reliability by setting its own OCP, UVP, and OVP parameters.

The MIC2506BM-TR enables designers to realize high-efficiency, safe, robust, and reliable applications with a low system cost. The package size and pin configuration also provide a low-footprint system design, which helps to save precious PCB real-estate in applications. This device is available in four package options: SOT23-6L, SOT89-6L, TO-92-6L, and Weightometer-6L.
