The MIC5255-3.0YM5-TR is a 3.0A ultra-low-quiescent currentresistor-programmable linear voltage regulator with an adjustable output voltage from 1.25V to 5.5V. This device is ideal for battery-powered applications as it typically draws only 10uA of quiescent current.The MIC5255-3.0YM5-TR is designed for battery-powered and hand-held devices, including those driven by USB, and is optimized for very low dropout voltage (typically 240mV at light loads) over temperature variations and line voltages,and to ensure excellent line and load regulation. With preset current-limit and thermal protection, the device can withstand transientloading surges, while limiting input current and power.

Working Principle:

The MIC5255-3.0YM5-TR voltage regulator is integrated with a bandgap reference and aPMOS pass element, which allow the device to achieve an extremely low dropout voltage over current and temperature variations.The output voltage of the MIC5255-3.0YM5-TR can be adjusted through an external resistor divider. The impedance of these resistors is selected to provide good control of theoutput voltage over temperature and line voltage variations.The MIC5255-3.0YM5-TR has a built-in power-on-reset circuit that provides asserted resetwith an Accuracy within 0.5%. It also includes a controlled ramp up output voltage feature to minimize inrush currents. This helps to protect downstream components from excessive inrush currents during start-up.

The MIC5255-3.0YM5-TR can operate over a wide temperature range(-40 to +85°C)and provide excellent line and load regulation. The regulator also offers excellent ripple rejection, typ. 82dB at 1kHz. It also supports very low dropout voltage at lightloads, which is beneficial for maximizing battery life.

The MIC5255-3.0YM5-TR contains a power-stop pin for controlling the output enable status. This pin is used for deactivating the device’s output voltage when power is not needed. This helps to reducepower consumption and maximize battery life.
