The MIC5319-1.8YD5-TR is a versatile and cost effective solution for a wide range of consumer, industrial and automotive applications. The device is particularly suitable for applications that require a wide line/load regulation range and a low voltage dropout. It also features low quiescent current and low ground current, making it especially suitable for battery powered systems. Additionally, due to its low input voltage requirement, it can be used in applications where efficient utilization of battery life is paramount.It can be used in a variety of applications such as processor regulation and power conversion, low noise regulation, and battery regulation in mobile communication and portable electronic devices. The MIC5319-1.8YD5-TR can also be used as logic level shifters and as local on card regulators to power low voltage devices such as DSPs, RF transceivers and ASICs found in hand-held devices, industrial controllers and automotive applications.
Working Principle
The MIC5319-1.8YD5-TR is a low dropout linear regulator that utilizes an error amplifier and an NMOS pass device to maintain a stable output voltage. The regulator takes a 3.3V to 5.5V input voltage and provides a regulated low voltage output.The output voltage is set by an external resistor divider and it has an accuracy of ± 2%. This allows the user to set output voltages from 1.8V to 5.5V. The voltage is regulated over a wide load range of 20mA to 300mA.The error amplifier circuit compares the output voltage to an internal reference voltage and adjusts the current through the pass device so the output voltage can be maintained stable. The pass device is connected between the output voltage and bypass pin. The bypass pin is connected to the input supply and its purpose is to minimize power dissipation when the output current is low. When the output current is above the low current threshold, the bypass connection is disengaged and the pass device is effectively open, thus resulting in a voltage drop across the pass device.Additionally, the device has a power good output which is used to indicate if the output voltage is within specifications. This signal is low when the output voltage is out of regulation or goes out of regulation. The output can also be disabled by pulling the enable pin low. This will put the device into shutdown mode and the load current will be limited to 8mA.
