As part of a Texas Instruments Analog and Power Management (APM) family, the MIC5335-SOYMT-TR combines the advantages of a precision voltage regulator and low-dropout (LDO) topology with low quiescent current in a very small 3-pin Surface-Mounted Device (SMD).

Working Principle of MIC5335-SOYMT-TR

The MIC5335-SOYMT-TR is constructed using CMOS and BiCMOS technology coupled with its on-chip logic and 8-bit DAC feedback. This combination with the feedback from the 8-bit DAC helps to create a precise and regulated output voltage.The MIC5335-SOYMT-TR has two separate circuits: a linear regulator and a voltage reference. The linear regulator has two transistors, a PNP and an NPN. The PNP is used to monitor the output voltage, and the NPN monitors the input voltage. The output voltage is kept constant by comparing the voltage reference with the PNP transistor output voltage. If the output voltage is lower than the voltage reference, the PNP transistor will sink current from the output, increasing its voltage. If the output voltage is higher than the reference, the NPN transistor will sink current from the output, decreasing its voltage.The output voltage of the MIC5335-SOYMT-TR can be adjusted using the 8-bit DAC, which also provides feedback to the transistor monitors for better accuracy. This 8-bit DAC can be used to adjust the output voltage in the range of 0.3V up to 5.5V with a minimum step size of 0.1% of the output voltage.
