MIC5841BV-TR application field and working principlePower management integrated circuit (PMIC) is an important core component in modern digital product design. PMIC has the function of supplying power, distributing voltage and current, controlling the status of other circuits, and performing many other power management operations. The MIC5841BV-TR is a versatile power management integrated circuit (PMIC). It belongs to the power distribution switches, load drivers and voltage regulators category.The MIC5841BV-TR is a single channel low on-resistance, low dropout (LDO) linear regulator featuring very low DC output noise and fast transient response. It combines a low voltage dropout control circuit, internal power-on reset (POR) circuit and over-temperature protection circuit. It can provide a wide range of output currents from 400mA to 1A.The MIC5841BV-TR has a variety of applications. It can be used in automotive, consumer electronics, industrial and many other sectors.In automotive applications, the MIC5841BV-TR can be used in engine control systems and automotive electronics, as well as to provide power to LED lighting systems, navigators, display panels, handsfree systems and other automotive devices. In consumer electronics, it can be used to power up smart display panels, digital TV, projectors, set top boxes and many kinds of connected home appliances. In industrial applications, it can be used to power industrial level communication equipment, industrial level server systems, and robotics applications. The MIC5841BV-TR is available in many package types: SOIC-8, SOP-8 and SOP-16. It is easy to use, with a wide input voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5V and an adjustable or fixed 1.5V, 2.1V, 2.5V, 2.8V and 3.3V output voltage. It has an excellent transient response time as low as 100us.The principle of working of the MIC5841BV-TR is based on the concept of linear voltage regulation, coupled with an internal power-on reset circuit. A comparator monitors the differential voltage between the output of the linear regulator and the reference voltage, and sends the signal to the control logic which adjusts the voltage until it is exactly equal to the reference voltage. The control logic is then used to drive the output mosfets, drawing current through the output, and controlling the output voltage to meet the required reference voltage.Furthermore, the MIC5841BV-TR features two integrated circuit (IC) shutdown function modes. The first mode allows the user to control the chip through an external pin, i.e. via controlling the output power. When the pin is “high”, the idea that the chip is in the “on” mode, when the pin is “low” the chip is in the “off” mode. The second mode allows users to control the chip’s operating mode via pulse width modulation (PWM) signals. The MIC5841BV-TR also has very good over temperature and reverse current protection features. It has an integrated thermal shut off circuit, which stops the device’s output if the chip’s die temperature exceeds 160°C. Additionally, it incorporates reverse current protection film which turns off the output current in the reverse direction.To conclude, the MIC5841BV-TR is a cost effective single channel PMIC, with a wide array of application prospects in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics. It has a low on-resistance, low dropout linear regulator with very low DC output noise and fast transient response, and it has two integrated circuit (IC) shutdown function modes. It has excellent over temperature and reverse current protection features.
