The MICRF501EVAL1 evaluation board is designed to enable designers to evaluate the performance of the MICRF501, the low power, high performance sub-GHz radio transceiver from Micrel. This evaluation board is capable of supporting up to 30 meter wireless communication and supports the devices in both 4-Channel and 5-Channel configurations. The board also allows the use of the on-chip PLL configuration to reduce the power consumption and simplify the application design.In order to evaluate the performance of the device, Micrel provides several software tools which allow a user to configure the device for different parameters such as modulation type, data rate, frequency, etc. The evaluation board is also designed to enable the user to connect two evaluation boards together for in-field testing. This setup allows the user to verify software development, test product connection and measure the performance of the transceiver.The MICRF501 features a programmable modem, designed specifically for the operation in the sub-GHz frequency range. The modem is primarily intended for interfacing with ASK/FSK, GFSK, and OOK modulation schemes. This integrated modem is designed to work in unlicensed frequency bands, which can be configured by the user. This feature enables the user to cut costs and simplify the design process.The board is supported by an Evaluation Software Tools which provide a graphical user interface that is used to configure, control,and monitor the RF transceiver. The Software Tools enable the user to configure different parameters for operation such as modulation type, data rate, frequency and duty cycles. In addition, the evaluation software also features a graphical user interface which allows the user to control and monitor the setup from a single window. The MICRF501EVAL1 is designed with an external 32X8X8 memory configuration, which allows the device to store information and data in a non-volatile memory. This configuration also enables the user to program various settings and parameters of the device. Moreover, this memory configuration offers a greater flexibility when it comes to programming and reconfiguring the device for different applications.Furthermore, the MICRF501 is also designed to support the transmission of both analogue and digital modulation schemes, so that the wireless communication range can be extended, enabling the user to experiment with different antenna techniques to maximize the range of the communication.
