The MIKROE-2873 is an evaluation board which functions as an expansion board, daughter card in the industry of electrical engineering, providing an integrated and intuitive platform for experimentation and development of new products. It contains a comprehensive system-on-chip (SoC) which allows multi-tasking and control functions with low latency and high performance in a single chip.

The board offers a complete embedded system solution for a wide range of devices, with easy configuration and a user-friendly development environment. The onboard components include a dedicated clock module, 4 MHz crystal, a microcontroller, an 8-bit Atmel AVR processor, 2 GB DDR2 DRAM, serial NOR Flash memory, JTAG header, and a USB 2.0 connection for connecting and emulating external devices. Additionally, the board also has a RTC (real-time clock), 2xCAN bus, 10/100 ethernet, JTAG-compatible debugging port, several sockets for extra expansion modules, high resolution user display, 4xDAC (digital-to-analog converter), 4xADC (analog-to-digital converter), 2KB SRAM, 2KB ROM, 10 GPIO lines, two I2C busses, 4xSPI devices and 4xUARTs.

In addition to the onboard components, the board also comes with several external expansion modules such as a Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR BLE, a ZedBoard™ High-speed expansion connector which can be directly connected to other interface boards, such as video capturing boards, wireless transceivers, and more. The multi-function pads, comprised of 4 buttons, a joystick, and a touchpad, are suitable for a variety of different application usage.

The MIKROE-2873 features a working bandwidth of up to 52 MHz and a wide range of bit rates and signal types, making it perfect for embedded systems ranging from automotive, medical, and industrial control applications. It also supports a number of industry standard operating systems such as Linux, Android, Symbian, and many others.

The board’s working principle mainly revolves around its on-board processor, which runs code written for it. The processor fetches instructions from extractable memory devices such as RAM and ROM. It executes the instructions after the instructions have been retrieved from memory and processes it according to the application’s logic. The on-board processor communicates with external devices, such as sensors and actuators, through the use of programmable input/output lines either directly or through the use of interface module such as I2C and SPI.
