MK2308S-1HI is a Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, and Frequency Synthesizers. It offers dedicated low-cost synthesizer solutions to low-frequency and wideband (UWB) applications. MK2308S-1HI provides a multifunctional clock, including frequency synthesis, phase lock control, and spread spectrum modulation modes.

Features

MK2308S-1HI is a highly integrated, low jitter solution for frequency synthesis. It offers on-chip programmable frequency reference, low power CMOS process, and low operating temperature ranges from –25°C to +85°C. It can be programmed using the on-board serial interface or external clock sources. Additionally, it is capable of taking an input frequency of up to 1.25GHz and has a programmable way of output frequency up to 500MHz.

Working Principle

The MK2308S-1HI works with a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). It will use the external reference input to generate a stable and accurate output frequency. The VCO output is then compared with an external reference frequency in a phase detector. The output of the phase detector is fed to a loop filter, where the low and high frequency are selected and removed, leaving only the desired frequency. The output of the loop filter is then fed to the control voltage input of the VCO. This will cause the VCO frequency to change according to the control voltage, in order to match the reference frequency. When the two frequencies are equal, the phase lock loop is engaged and the output frequency is maintained.

It is also capable of working with clock frequencies up to 200MHz and frequency accuracy of up to 0.25ppm. It also provides a spread spectrum modulation mode for improved EMI and EMC performance.
