The MK2703BSLFTR belongs to the Clock/Timing item with Clock Generators, PLLs, and Frequency Synthesizers. It is an ultra low jitter and high precision clock generator. The MK2703BSLFTR isideally suited for applications such as storage networking and embedded systems where precision timing and low level-to-level jitter are required. It provides low power, small size and high level thermal efficiency. It is compatible with a wide range of single-ended, complementary signal formats and can be used in any environment.
The working principle of the MK2703BSLFTR is based on a “half-rate” PLL which utilizes a digital phase detector and a digitally-controlled loop filter. The PLL locks to the reference clock at a 1:2 rate and translates the frequency in a single-ended or complementary signal format with a wide range of frequencies. In order to provide a frequency range of 20 KHz to 1 GHz, the output phase and frequency of the PLL is adjusted using fine-grain and coarse-grain phase-lock loops.
The MK2703BSLFTR uses a “Ramp-up” and “Ramp-down” feature which allows the PLL\'s frequency to remain within a few nanoseconds of the reference clock for a fast and clean transition. The PLL also includes an on-chip Frequency Synthesizer which provides a periodic burst of a high-frequency clock pulse with a range of between 10 KHz and 1 GHz and a maximum duty-cycle of up to 70%. This increases the flexibility of the PLL by allowing the user to choose a range of different frequency pulses at a single reference frequency.
The MK2703BSLFTR also includes a very low jitter, low-power voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) which is designed for low-noise and low-power total phase jitter. The VCO has a tuning range of between 20 KHz and 1GHz and supports external capacitors and VCO bypass control.
The MK2703BSLFTR also provides a Level-Drop-On-Demand feature which is used for DCD downlink signaling and burst-mode communications. This feature allows the user to precisely adjust the pacing of the clock signal by altering the amount of time it takes for the output to drops below a certain threshold. This feature is necessary to ensure that the clock signal meets the timing requirements of more demanding systems.
The MK2703BSLFTR is designed to be used in a wide range of applications including storage networking, embedded systems, and high bit rate systems such as XAUI, SR, SFI-4, FEC and 3.125 Gb/s.
