The second function is that of a voltage regulator; when its output voltage is higher than a certain threshold, it will reduce or regulate the voltage.In a rectifier circuit, the single diode conducts current in one direction while blocking current in the opposite direction. This conversion of alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) allows an electric device to operate with a constant voltage, even when the supply voltage varies.
