Application Field

The MMWA2P47K-F film capacitor is specifically designed to provide very high capacitance levels and low ESR can be applied to high-current commutation or filtering of power supplies and appliances. Working Principle

The MMWA2P47K-F film capacitor is constructed of two metalized polypropylene film layers with an electrolyte solution in between them to create a dielectric, or electrostatic field, between the metalized films. This electrostatic field is capable of storing electrical energy and releasing it as needed. When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, a current is established and an electrical field is created between the electrodes. This electrical field creates a new surface charge on the metalized polypropylene films and a positive and negative polarization is established in the dielectric. The capacitor is designed to hold a static charge as the voltage is changed, allowing it to retain its stored energy.

The MMWA2P47K-F film capacitor also has an ESR rating, which indicates the equivalent series resistance or losses in the capacitor due to its design. A lower ESR rating gives the capacitor greater effectiveness in higher frequency applications as it will be able to dissipate the energy more quickly.
