MOCD208M is a product of Monolithic Opto Computing Devices, Inc. and is an optoisolator-transistor module with photovoltaic output. This optoelectronic device consists of two parts - a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is a photocell which is connected to an LED which emits light when a voltage is applied across it. The receiver is an integrated circuit package that contains all the electronic components necessary for the optoisolator including the phototransistor, amplifier, voltage regulator, etc. The device has a wide range of application fields, including industrial power supplies, communications, medical and automotive systems, and many others. An optoisolator is a device that isolates an input from an output through the use of optical components. The MOCD208M optoisolator works by using a light emitting diode (LED) to produce bright visible light that is focused on a photosensitive transistor (phototransistor), which acts as an amplifier to the input voltage. The input voltage causes the LED to produce an electrical signal that is received by the phototransistor. The phototransistor then amplifies the signal and produces an output voltage which is then sent to the output circuit. The MOCD208M optoisolator has a maximum voltage rating of 12V, with a maximum capture voltage of 10V at a maximum speed of 50kHz. The working temperature of the device is -40°C to +85°C, and the isolation resistance value is 5MΩ at 18V (DC). The device is also RoHS compliant and features a low input current to reduce the power consumption of the system. The MOCD208M optoisolator has two major applications – firstly, it can be used as an electrical isolator in power supplies in order to reduce ground loops or electromagnetic interference (EMI).
