MP2497DN-LF is a new product in the DC-DC switching regulators developed by Monolithic Power Systems Inc. (MPS). This regulator features a wide input voltage range, high power conversion efficiency and good stability.

The MP2497DN-LF is a synchronous step-down voltage regulator which is suitable for various applications ranging from DC-DC power converters, VRMs, LCD TVs, tablet PC power supplies, servers, notebook computer power supplies, automotive systems, machine-to-machine (M2M) devices, consumer appliances and 3G/4G handsets.

The MP2497DN-LF operates over an input voltage range of 4.5V to 40V and can provide up to 3A continuous output current at an output voltage of 0.6V to 18V. It features integrated FETs for better efficiency and a rich set of features, including Power Good and Low Voltage Protection, allowing designers to optimize their applications. It also utilizes Adaptive On-Time control which provides the excellent line and load regulation in order to improve the system’s dynamic response. Additionally, it includes a soft-start configuration to reduce inrush current.

The power section of the MP2497DN-LF utilizes a synchronous high-side MOSFET and a high-switching frequency synchronous rectification architecture to reduce power losses. This helps to achieve a high power efficiency of up to 94%. Moreover, the patented monolithic converter controller prevents the current sensing resistor from being exposed to high voltage, improving the cost/performance ratio.

The MP2497DN-LF has an adjustable frequency oscillator to accommodate optimized efficiency and stable operation over a wide range of load and environmental conditions. It also supports Light Load Efficiency Mode (LLEM) for ultra-low quiescent current and shutdown for a system with dual power supplies. Furthermore, the M3 series features programmable Soft-Start, remote error detection and other features to ensure excellent transient response.

The MP2497DN-LF controller is available in small-size 8-Lead SOP package, providing high-density performance and making it adapted for portable and space-constrained applications.
