This device combines low power consumption and fast transient response in a wide range of output voltages. Its integrated step-down topology and on-board oscillator reduce component count and drastically reduce component selection complexity.

MP8718EN-LF Application Field

The MP8718EN-LF devices are step-down regulat ors that deliver a regulated output voltage from 1.2 V to 6.0 V at a programmable switching frequency from 200 kHz to 2.2 MHz. The internal power MOSFET and integrated controller reduce board space and component count. The input voltage range for the MP8718EN-LF is from 2.4 V to 24 V. This makes it suitable for numerous applications that use a 3 V, 5 V, or 6 V battery or higher input voltages found in the industrial environment, such as those derived from 12 V, 18 V, and 24 V supplies.The MP8718EN-LF has excellent operational stability, with a variable instruction that can set the output accurately and stable over line, load, and temperature variations. MP8718EN-LF Working Principle

The MP8718EN-LF works on a PFM/PWM control architecture for excellent transient response and overall efficiency. The input voltage is converted to a constant ripple voltage and is amplified by a power output detection circuit to generate the error amplifier input signal. The error amplifier compares this signal with the reference and drives the gate of the power MOSFET, thus controlling the output voltage. The PPL function steps down the operating frequency and reduces the dropout voltage at light load currents. The frequency is controlled by the feedback loop and is adjusted over certain current levels by the PFM comparator. The oscillator block in the MP8718EN-LF provides a fixed frequency at full load and a fully adjustable ramp-up current. The adjustment of the ramp-up current can be done via external resistor or via clock frequency adjustment. The MP8718EN-LF has a clock frequency setting that is set by an external resistor and is adjustable over certain current levels by the PFM comparator.
