It\'s mainly used in smart grid applications and advanced metering infrastructure applications for both residential and commercial users.The MPC8309CVMAN is designed to integrate all the necessary components that allow it to perform various metering applications. This microcontroller incorporates a Power Architecture core with a well organized on-chip integrated peripherals. This allows it to control the metering and billing of services used by customers, such as electricity, water and gas usage. With the addition of its flexible and powerful I/O capabilities, the MPC8309CVMAN is also able to handle a variety of critical metering functions, such as metering data processing, data collection and transmission, voltage and current detection, communication, and over-the-air security.The MPC8309CVMAN has a total of two high-speed 32-bit Power Architecture e300 processors that are connected by an interconnect bus that is hosted by a MultiPort Serial (MPS). The MPC8309CVMAN also includes five on-chip serial communication peripherals, an internal 10/100 Ethernet port, four I2C and three SPI ports. The integrated on-chip analog peripherals are comprised of four A/D converters, four universal digital input-output ports, an analog-to-digital converter, and a digital-to-analog converter. The MPC8309CVMAN also has a total of seven timers, ten 16-bit capture/compare modules, and real-time clock for time-related applications.The MPC8309CVMAN also contains a unique hybrid MPU (Memory Protection Unit) that supports both hardware-level and software-level security.
