MPC8378ECVRAGDA is an advanced microprocessor from Freescale Semiconductor, Built on Power Architecture™ technology, MPC8378ECVRAGDA microprocessor is designed for the embedded industrial control, telecommunications, networking and digital consumer markets. It permits manufacturers to create a variety of devices targeting these applications.
It has high performance, low power operation and designers are enabled to create flexible systems to meet demanding requirements.
MPC8378ECVRAGDA is capable of power efficient processing as it is a combination of an enhanced version of the PowerPC e300 core and an on-chip memory controller which are integrated into the single-chip device.
The most advanced process node of MPC8378ECVRAGDA integrated microprocessor is 90nm, which is highly scalable, enabling sophisticated features with minimized power requirements.
The applications of MPC8378ECVRAGDA include industrial, telecoms, networking, consumer and medical embedded control. With the combination of its high performance and low power consumption, MPC8378ECVRAGDA makes it ideal for processors in industrial and medical applications.
MPC8378ECVRAGDA provides a wealth of onboard peripherals, such as I2C, DMA, timers and watchdog, etc. It also equips multiplexed interrupt sources and internal mux buses to support customers applications.
The embedded bus interface of MPC8378ECVRAGDA maintains optimal compliance with the Power Architecture™ definition, enabling vendors to produce reference designs that are robust and interoperable.
MPC8378ECVRAGDA’s working principle is based on Power Architecture technology combined with the device\'s many features, ranging from a FLASH memory controller to peripheral interfaces and standards like ECC.Its Power Architecture core features an enhanced version of the PowerPC e300.
The integrated memory controller of the MPC8378ECVRAGDA includes an on-chip DDR2 controller with a DP0+ interface. When paired with appropriate external DDR2 SDRAM components, it will allow for speeds up to 667MHz. Its integrated memory interface also supports FLASH memory, enabling the MPC8378ECVRAGDA processor to support Load/Store multiple instructions and perform parallel operations.
The on-chip ECC also ensures greater robustness and reliability when dealing with large amounts of data. It provides data integrity check and correction, permitting fewer DRAM chips to operate smaller devices.
MPC8378ECVRAGDA also includes two Direct Memory Access channels, each supporting up to 32-bit transfers. It also has over 10 enhanced interrupt sources, a four-channel general purpose timer, four-channel Real Time Clock, and a cryptographic engine, which greatly enhance its application.
In addition, it features four Serial/SPI ports, one I2C/SMBUS gesture, three user ports, four external slave interfaces, and a General Purpose Input/Output port. MPC8378ECVRAGDA\'s power-saving modes help to further reduce power consumption during stand-by or periods of low-activity. This is an important feature for battery powered and stationary power-supply applications.
