The MPC96877VK is an extremely versatile device that enables applications in a variety of clock/timing segments, including: digital Wi-Fi systems, digital map router systems, digital HDTV systems, digital audio systems, optical networks, security systems, and digital video broadcast systems.
The MPC96877VK includes both general-purpose as well as dedicated functions and has been engineered for use in both very high performance and low power applications. Its general-purpose features include PLL frequency synthesizer, on-chip oscillator and clock synthesizer designed to support a wide range of input frequencies, integrated phase-locked loop (PLL) and dedicated P/N synthesizers which may be programmed as either a clock synthesizer or a phase detector, programmable DPLL and an on-chip oscillator and clock synthesizer. It also includes dedicated functions such as a low-jitter clock phase-locked loops (pLLL) and automatic frequency control (AFC) circuitry for precise clock phase control.
The core of the MPC96877VK is the integrated clock/timing module which features a PLL / DPLL for generating a low-jitter clock source for timing applications. This core will then be used to generate various output clock signals. The PLL / DPLL is controlled by the programmable phase-switching logic (PSL) circuitry which is used to generate a clock with a programmable phase offset.
