MPC926508SD is a clock generator, phase lock loop (PLL), and frequency synthesizer in one device. It takes an analog input and generates a digital output clock of different frequencies. Its main application field is will clock generation, distribution, and system synchronization.
Features
The MPC926508SD provides a wide selection of adjustable parameters to control the output frequency from 400 kHz to 1.22 GHz. In addition, the device offers an independent output frequency enable/disable mode, two independent outputs, output enable/disable polarity control, and an internal PLL loop filter.
The clock generator offers excellent accuracy and reduced drift over temperature and processing. The clock out and enable signals are individually adjustable and latch to avoid triggering abrupt glitches. It also offers adjustable slew-rate control and programmable buffer drive current capabilities.
Working Principle
The device is powered using a single supply voltage between 3.3 to 5 V. The voltage supply sets the amplitude of the output clock, while the input frequency can be set using a bank of on-chip frequency control registers.
The MPC926508SD also has an input clock amplifier, which amplifies the analog input signal to drive the PLL. The amplified input is then coupled to the loop filter, which consists of a resistor and a capacitor. The filter stabilizes the loop and dictates the frequency response of the PLL.
The acquired signal is then routed to the phase detector and then to the programmable PLL. The PLL compares the phases of the incoming signal and oscillator signal and then produces a new signal with the same frequency but a correct phase to the input signal. This signal is used to control the frequency of the oscillator output in order to maintain a lock on the output frequency.
The output of this PLL is fed to a frequency synthesizer, which can be configured to divide the output frequency by 1, 2, or 3. This frequency synthesizer also includes a divider chain to generate different frequencies from the single reference frequency. This divider chain is programmable, allowing users to customize the output clock frequency and enable/disable states.
Applications
The MPC926508SD is used for clock generators, clock distribution, and system synchronization in applications such as automotive infotainment, DVD players, television receivers, set-top boxes and hubs, digital video recorders, etc. It can also be used as frequency synthesizers and clock motor controllers in computers, home appliances, and automated equipment.
