The clock generator and PLL devices of the MPC9774AER2 family offer a flexible, low-power solution for clock generation, both synchronous and asynchronous. These devices allow for the implementation of multiple clock outputs with independent programmability between them. They also feature a wide range of clock jitter performance options, to accommodate a wide range of applications.
The MPC9774AER2, a low-noise, low-power clock generator, has a multi-phase frequency synthesizer core, which delivers a wide range of synthesized frequencies to multiple outputs. This frequency synthesizer core, in conjunction with the programmable dividers and different synchronization options, creates a flexible solution for the generation of multiple synchronous or asynchronous clock outputs. The clock generation can be further customized with features such as dynamic synchronization, slew rate control and noise mitigation.
The MPC9774AER2 features a three-phase Fractional-N Synthesizer core which is capable of generating frequencies from 0.1 Hz up to 300 MHz. The three-phase core is designed to reduce jitter and to optimize the clock synthesis performance. The device also has multiple on-chip voltages, which allow the customer to configure the power rail voltages for different synch and clock configurations.
The MPC9774AER2 has an on-chip differential Oscillator, which is used to generate the main clock input. The oscillator is programmable and has an amplitude control feature. The oscillator internal frequency can be programmed in the range of 3 kHz to 280 MHz. The device supports external clock inputs, allowing a more flexible implementation.
In order to configure the MPC9774AER2 for the required clock generation, the device can be programmed via a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). The device also features Input Done, Program Done and Output Done status bits to ensure correct programming.
