The MPLAD36KP51CA is an unidirectional Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode with a breakdown voltage of dual 5.1V. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from damaging voltage transients induced by lightning and other environment-related events in a wide variety of applications. MPLAD36KP51CA Working Principle:

The MPLAD36KP51CA is a unidirectional Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode with a breakdown voltage of dual 5.1V. When an input signal exceeds this voltage, the diode will conduct, allowing current flow into the device and clamping the voltage to a safe level. Once the transient passes, the device will immediately stop conducting, limiting the voltage across it at all times.

The device contains a silicon diode connected between the anode and cathode terminals. When the anode-cathode voltage reaches a predetermined level, the diode will become forward biased and will start conducting current, thus limiting its own voltage. The diode will continue conducting current until the voltage across it falls again, at which point it will automatically switch off.
