Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) are specialized structures that are specifically designed to protect electrical and electronic components and systems against transients—electrical surges that can cause damage. TVS diode consists of two high-performance diodes as well as a junction. TVS diodes are often referred to as “clamp” devices as they are designed to virtually clamp off and redirect surges, lightning, or overvoltage, along with subnormal spikes or dips.MRT100KP75A application field and working principle
The MRT100KP75A is a TVS diode, designed and manufactured for high voltage transient protection duty. The MRT100KP75A has a wide range of application fields such as Telecom equipment, Automotive electronics, Industrial process control systems, Networking and ethernet technology, Medical electronics, Solar inverters, Power supplies and many other high voltage applications. It is designed to absorb the energy, stress and the damage caused due to transients created in the above-mentioned application fields. MRT100KP75A TVS diodes consists of two power diodes connected in series and a junction between them. It has a power rating of 100 watts and on-state voltage of 75V. During normal operations when the applied voltage is below 75V the two diodes remain non-conductive thereby allowing the current to flow through the device and act like an open circuit. However, during a transient the applied voltage rises above the on-state voltage of the device. This causes a voltage drop in the on-state voltage across the second diode and causes it to enter the on-state. This in turn causes the current to be redirected through the diode, dissipating the surge energy in the form of heat. This in turn prevents the surge current from damaging the component or circuit. After the surge, the voltage across the MRT100KP75A drops below the on-state voltage again, and the two diodes become non-conductive, allowing normal circuit operations.Conclusion
