Arrays of diodes or rectifiers provide benefits over individual devices because they reduce cost, size and complexity of the circuit design.
The MSCD36-12 is an array of twelve integrated Schottky diodes for use in controlling current flow. It is ideal for power control applications in automotive and industrial electronics. When a voltage is applied across the terminals of the diode array, the P-N junction diodes become forward-biased and allow current to flow in one direction (from anode to cathode). The voltage drop across each diode is also used to regulate the amount of current that can flow. When the voltage is below the breakover voltage, no current flows. This prevents damage due to short-circuit or reverse current conditions.
The P-N junction diodes also serve to control the speed of switching in automotive, or other similar applications. With a combination of 2 P-N junctions in series, the speed of switching can be further regulated. This is due to the fact that the forward voltage drop of the second diode limits the amount of current that can flow. This concept is applied to the MSCD36-12 to reduce the switching time and to provide better current control.
