MSMLG13CA/TR

TVS Diodes are a type of protection component that provides protection for sensitive electronic circuits against harmful transients, such a voltage spikes. The MSMLG13CA/TR is an unidirectional bi-directional transil diode specifically designed for overvoltage protection and IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD (electrostatic discharge) applications.

The working principle of the MSMLG13CA/TR is based on a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode with a zener diode and an avalanche diode connected in parallel. When connected, the TVS diode begins conducting in the forward direction until the voltage across the diode reaches a predetermined level (zener voltage). At this point, the derating of the device begins and the amount of current conducted is determined by the zener voltage. As the applied voltage continues to rise, the zener voltage derates and the avalanche diode begins to break down. The transistor is then triggered which allows the device to clamp the voltage to a predetermined level (clamping voltage).

Due to its low clamping voltage combined with a high pulse power dissipation rating, the MSMLG13CA/TR is ideal for protecting data lines from ESD events or other overvoltage transients. The device is available in both SMD and through-hole packages and is UL94-V0 approved making them suitable for use in a wide variety of applications.
