The MSMLG36CA and MSMLG36CA/TR TVS diodes are two-way ESD protection devices for high-speed data lines. The devices protect up to four high-speed data lines, such as Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), XAUI, SONET/SDH, SATA, and PCIe, from over-voltage transients caused by Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). The MSMLG36CA has a peak output capacitance of 5600pF and a 1.5A peak current at 10V reverse applied voltage (so called “Clamping Voltage” or VC). It also includes a low capacitance Bus FET switch that can be combined with an external series resistance to form a protection circuit for GbE peripherals. The MSMLG36CA/TR has the same performance as the MSMLG36CA but with improved isolation between the Bus FET and the ESD protection diodes.

The MSMLG36CA/TR TVS diode\'s design is based on an integrated bipolar junction transistor (BJT) and a pair of Schottky clamp diodes. The BJT acts as a voltage limiter to limit the maximum voltage seen by the data line to the breakdown voltage of the BJT. At the same time, the Schottky diodes are present to short out any over-voltage across the BJT and dissipate the stored charge and to protect against transient over-voltage. The Bus FET is used to control the power applied to the data line. The MSMLG36CA/TR is designed to have a low capacitance Bus FET and a low-voltage breakdown for improved performance and better ESD protection.

In terms of application, the MSMLG36CA/TR can be used to protect up to four differential pairs of high-speed data lines, such as GbE, XAUI, SONET/SDH, SATA, and PCIe buses. The devices are suitable for applications where protection against ESD for high-speed lines is needed. The two devices are available in a 48-lead TQFN surface mount package.

The MSMLG36CA/TR provides effective protection against ESD discharge. The devices provide fast clamping response, low clamp voltage, and low parasitic capacitance in order to protect against Electrostatic Discharge. The MSMLG36CA/TR also provide improved isolation between the ESD protection diodes and Bus FET for improved performance. The devices offer a high level of integration, providing a complete solution for ESD protection over a wide range of data rates. The devices are available in a 48-lead TQFN package for easy integration into applications.
