MultiPhase-RD is an advanced electrical power supply and current control technology, with the application fields in DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS , providing solutions for isolating and controlling ac/dc power supplies at greater than 10 kW.
The benefits of this technology can be quickly realized in the area of reducing the size and increasing efficiency for power systems. The basic concept of the MultiPhase-RD technology is to utilize a blend of multiple small current sources and current control to deliver a much higher maximum output current than a conventional setup.
The MultiPhase-RD current control technology achieves efficiency levels up to 98% while significantly reducing the need for large heatsinks. This benefit is achieved from the high efficiency of the drivers used in the system.
The MultiPhase-RD current control technology is based on a module with four parasitic capacitors which, when used to construct a power supply, enable the unit to operate in a single or dual mode. In the single mode, the module operates in a constant current mode, providing a wide dynamic range and voltage range. In the dual mode operation, two modules are connected together in a serial arrangement, allowing up to 4x the output current compared to the single mode configuration.
In the implementation of the MultiPhase-RD technology, programmable digital current controllers are used to regulate the output current and voltage of the power supply. The controllers offer very precise current and voltage control, as well as a wide range of user options, including a variety of control modes, overvoltage protection and input voltage sensing.
