MUR7010 is a single-phase, single-direction, ultrafast recovery diode, which is mainly used for rectification of switch power supply and general rectification of inverters. It is of various features, such as high efficiency, low reverse recovery time, low forward voltage drop, high surge-withstanding current, etc., and thus, is widely applied in telecommunications, consumer electronics industries, and etc.The structure of MUR7010 is mainly composed of the P-type silicone substrate and N+ metal silicon layer. It is made in a variety of techniques depending on the application field. Generally, the metal silicon layer is fabricated through a double-side multilayer process. The metal silicon provides multiple parts, such as anode, cathode, forward/reverse resistors, etc., forming a complete junction.The mechanism of MUR7010 serves as a rectifier. When the applied voltage is below the peak inverse voltage (PIV), the diode acts as an open circuit and no current can pass through. Yet, when the applied voltage is larger than PIV, the diode works as a closed switch across the circuit, allowing electrical charges to flow from anode to cathode. Its reverse recovery time is extremely fast, which is about 1.5 nanoseconds, enabling high conduction efficiency.When the applied voltage is forward, the MUR7010 acts as a closed circuit, forwarding the voltage between anode and cathode. The forward voltage drop depends on the type of diode and its current size. The lower the forward voltage drop is, the higher the power efficiency is. For example, MUR7010 has a fair performance on a forward voltage drop of about 0.45V and current size lower than 2A.The surge-withstanding current, or the threshold current, of MUR7010 is also considered for application field evaluation. As for high-powered switch mode power supply (SMPS), it is necessary to withstand a larger current. In this case, MUR7010 has its current size up to 15A, and a gate reverse recovery current up to 100A; thereby, best performance is achieved in terms of device reliability.
