The MV036F120M010-CB (MV) evaluation board is an off-line switch-mode power supply (SMS) and is used in a variety of applications due to its versatility. The MV evaluation board is capable of providing both constant current and constant voltage output signals depending on the load requirements. It provides independent control of both voltage and current regulation, easy-to-use control interface, and a wide input voltage range.
The MV evaluation board is based on an active-clamp forward topology which can deliver an output voltage of up to 120V with a total efficiency of up to 92%. It is suitable for powering both DC and AC applications with low output load. The MV evaluation board consists of two power stages; the primary stage consisting of a pair of NPN transistors and a pair of Schottky diodes and the secondary stage of two MOSFETs. The two power stages are interconnected by a PWM signal generated by a phase shift oscillator. The switching frequency of the PWM signal is set at the maximum of 300kHz. An optocoupler isolates the primary and the secondary stages from each other to ensure a steady output voltage even when the input voltage fluctuates. In addition, the optocoupler amplifies the control circuit’s signal to ensure a better output regulation.
The secondary stage of the MV evaluation board is designed to supply two independent outputs, one for each MOSFET and one for the output filter inductor. The output voltages can be programmed for continuous or pulsed output, and the output voltage can be optimized depending on the application’s individual current and voltage requirement. The control circuit includes an open loop voltage regulation feedback, and a positive feedback loop for current regulation to maintain high power conversion efficiency. The MV evaluation board has been tested for load variations from 0% to 100% load, and for input voltage switching from 0V to 220V. The board efficiency is above 82% at full load and the peak efficiency is up to 92%.
The MV evaluation board also includes a wide set of optional features that allow the end-user to customize the board for various applications. The end-user can choose the voltage and current limits, on-board voltage and current sensing options, as well as the thermal protection circuitry. Furthermore, the total harmonic distortion of the transient response and the power line noise are both minimized in order to provide an excellent power supply quality.
