The working principle of the MV54173 is based on the PN junction diode, in which the forward voltage of the diode illuminated when an electric current passes through it, generating light. There is a P-type and an N-type semiconductor in the diode. When a voltage is applied to the junction between the two, the electrons from N-type move to the P-type side while the holes from the P-type move to the N-type side, forming an electronic current flow. The flux of electron will cause the diode to emit light, which is what happens when the MV54173 is powered.
