<div class="data-acquisition-text"> <h2>Data Acquisition: Analog to Digital Converters (ADC)</h2> <p>Analog to digital converters (ADC), commonly known as A/D converters, are devices that convert analog signals (electronic signals that vary over a continuous range of strength) into digital signals (discrete signals that represent specific numerical values) for computational processing. Some of the most common applications for ADC’s are in medical imaging systems, automotive technologies, motors, telecommunications, and consumer electronics.</p> <p>The MX674ALEWI+ is a dual-channel 8-bit A/D converter with an on-chip temperature sensor, selectable input ranges of 0-2.5V, 0-5V or ±5V, and a selectable conversion mode of either single-ended or differential input. It is capable of sampling rates up to 24MSPS, has an on-board voltage reference, and utilizes a pipeline architecture with Programmable Gain Stage (PGS) to quantify analog signals through the A/D conversion process.</p> <h3>MX674ALEWI+ Application Field</h3> <p>The MX674ALEWI+ is an ideal choice for applications requiring low power, high performance A/D conversion and is particularly suitable for data acquisition systems. The device has two 8-bit inputs, making it suitable for applications in which two signals need to be sampled simultaneously.</p> <p>The MX674ALEWI+ also provides superior accuracy, stability, and dynamic performance designs, which is well suited for applications in: industrial automation, smart grids, electric vehicles, motor control, power conversion, renewable energy, metering applications, medical equipment and automotive.</p> <h3>MX674ALEWI+ Working Principle</h3> <p>The MX674ALEWI+ uses a pipelined architecture to achieve its impressive sampling rate of 24MSPS and an on-chip voltage reference to guarantee its accuracy. During data acquisition, the samples are taken in high speed with a duration determined by the voltage reference. From there, the samples are passed to the Programmable Gain Amplifier stage (PGA), where a calibration step is done in order to amplify the signal to the maximum range available. This is followed by the PGA outputting the samples to the A/D conversion stage. Here, the analog signal is digitized and given an 8-bit resolution, which is as precise as 0.39mV/LSB, with errors no more than 0.25LSB.
