LED Drivers belong to the Power Management ICs (PMICs). LED Driver PMICs are designed to control the power delivered to a LED array through a power converter such as a Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost, Cuk or SEPIC as well as to monitor and regulate the LEDs’ current. They are able to reduce power dissipation, allowing reduced system cost, size and increased energy efficiency. MX841BET is one of the PMIC - LED Driver type.
MX841BETR is a low quiescent current, high efficiency, step-down DC/DC converter for driving non-isolated RGB LED. It uses 3x3V step-down converters internally, with a input voltage range from 4.5V to 18V and a typical voltage output from 0.6V to 3V. The output current is regulated by setting of external resistor. This IC features a light load efficiency of up to 90%, as well as parallel setting options for dimming control toggle, perfect for dimming control applications. Other features include an internal over-temperature and over-voltage protection inputs that provide the utmost safety in LED driving applications.

MX841BETR Working Principle:
The MX841BETR is a single chip LED Driver with step-down DC/DC converter. It uses constant-current regulation and input voltage regulation to convert a wide input voltage range into the desired output voltage. The input voltage range can be adjusted within the range of 4.5V to 18V. The output voltage is adjustable, and the output current is set with external resistors.
The MX841BETR takes time multiplex based PWM dimming control signal through external pin as the input signal, and it helps to regulate the power supplied to the LED. This regulation controls the amount of current and voltage supplied to the LEDs and is able to meet the various dimming requirements. The brightness and dimming capability of the system is controlled by setting the duty cycle (width) of the PWM signal.
Moreover, the MX841BETR is equipped with three sets of relative voltage feedback. Using combined logic of switching between various voltage feedbacks, the IC could be switched to three different modes. The serial output structure efficiently supports the luminous intensity of multiple LED lamps.
The MX841BETR is well suited for RGB LED Driving applications. It is able to save power, reduce system cost and size, and ensure the safety of the LED. These features make the IC a very attractive option for LED driving systems.
