Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Diodes, or more commonly known as suppression diodes, fall into the broad category of active components. They are devices designed to protect electrical or electronic circuits from destructive effects of electrical over-voltage or transients. The MEX5KP110CA is one such transient voltage suppression diode from Littelfuse.

This diode device is a unidirectional (or bi-directional in some cases) low capacitance transient voltage suppressor. It is in fact a monolithic thyristor, with a peak power dissipation capacity of 5,000 W.
