MXL5KP60A Application Field and Working Principle

MXL5KP60A, under the classification of TVS-Diodes, is mainly used to protect from over voltage transients generated by induvial or atmospheric discharges. The product line consists of three of a varying range of voltage levels of 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0 volts. This voltage level is maintained in static (DC) and in dynamic (AC) state and helps in the protection during power supply induced overshoot.

MXL5KP60A is offered in SOT23 and SMA packages. It is suitable for applications like Surge Stopper, Transparent Overvoltage Protection, and others.

MXL5KP60A is based on a low capacitance, low-power TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) technology, which is based on a semiconductor-based bidirectional dual-pair diode structure. This TVS technology is capable of suppressing higher surge energy and is also suitable for fast transients from induced EFT (Electrical Fast Transients) or surge. It can protect from EFT/surge up to the predetermined voltage level.

The working principle of MXL5KP60A is relatively simple. When no transients occur, the voltage is normal. But when a transient (negative or positive) increases, it reaches the predetermined voltage level which can be either TL (minimum surge voltage level) or VRWM (maximum non-carrying state voltage). Once it reaches the voltage level, the diode in the structure will conduct and the current will flow. As long as the voltage remains higher than the predetermined voltage level, the diode will remain dense, and the device will act as a clamping device, protecting the circuit and its components from damage.

MXL5KP60A can be used in many applications finds its application in power supplies, USB port protection, automotive equipment, consumer electronics, and industrial equipment. The high speed of the device makes it a suitable choice for applications which require high surge immunity.

MXL5KP60A is the preferred device for pulse and transients protection applications. It is designed for applications where low-capacitance and minimal voltage over-shoot are important. Its low-capacitance reduces signal distortion due to capacitive loading, while the minimal voltage over-shoot feature reduces the risk of system/circuit damage. MXL5KP60A offers an excellent combination of low capacitance and low dynamic impedance that protects induvial or atmospheric discharge transients.
